Holiday Events in December

Hays - DecemberWeekend

Enjoy a Christmas from days gone by at the Plymouth Schoolhouse Christmas Open House on the FHSU campus Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. Refreshments are provided and the event is FREE and open to the public.


Come out to the FHSU Memorial Union’s Sunset Atrium for FHSU Intramurals’ Santa’s Visit and Clydesdale Sleigh Rides event on Dec. 7 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. The event includes pictures with Santa, cookie decorating, crafts, and sleigh rides. Chili will be available for the first 200 people.  This event is FREE and open to the public.


Big Creek Crossing hosts the Holiday Craft Fair on Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With 43 vendors, there will be something for everyone.


Enjoy a Volga German Christmas Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hays Public Library. The Wes Windholz Polka Band will play from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Green bean dumpling soup, fried noodles, and beans will be served. This event is FREE and open to all ages.


See some amazing Christmas lights at the Hays City Lights event. Take a hay rack ride on Saturday, Dec. 9 departing from Westview Church. Or Sunday, Dec. 10, enjoy the show from the comfortable HRC passenger bus, departing from the Hays Recreation Center. Christmas music will be provided by the Hays High Chamber Singers. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance with cookies, cider and hot chocolate. Tickets are $2 and are on sale at the HRC through Dec. 8.


Big Creek Crossing hosts Wine Wonderland on Dec. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. Wineries from all over the state will be on hand with samples and wine for purchase. Wine tasting will be available to those who purchase tickets for $20 in advance/$30 at the door, and includes a free wine bag. Tickets available at the mall office.


A highlight of this magical time of the year is the Annual Frostfest Illuminated Parade on December 16 at 6 p.m. Thousands of parade watchers line up along historic Main Street as dozens of lighted floats, and even lighted animals, pass by.


Don’t forget your four-legged friends this Christmas! Pet Photos with Santa will be held at Big Creek Crossing on Friday, Dec. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m.


Carriage Rides in Downtown Hays will be held Dec. 7, 14, and 21. Come to 10th and Main to line up for carriage rides and hot chocolate. Rides are $3/person, children 5 and under ride free.
